You found me.

My name is Emily Yu (she/they), and I am a second-generation Chinese-Canadian born to Hong Kong immigrants. I primarily write speculative fiction, but I will occasionally dabble in literary fiction and creative non-fiction.

I am an editor and illustrator (for interior illustrations only) for Heartlines Spec magazine.

Occasionally, I have co-hosted writing workshops.

Land Acknowledgement

I am thankful for the privilege of writing and dreaming on Treaty 7 territories which belong to the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). In particular, I am based out of Mohkinstsis, Wîchispa Oyade, Otos-kwunee and Guts-ists’i, commonly known as the City of Calgary; this is home to the historic Northwest Métis and to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region.

I would like to acknowledge and pay tribute to the ancestors of the Indigenous people of Treaty 7 who were subjected to unfair treatment and cultural assimilation at the hands of European settlers. My relationship with colonization is inevitably complicated as my family immigrated here in search of a better life and even more so with my ancestry from the previous British colony of Hong Kong. Although we strive towards reconciliation, there continues to be a long road ahead.

I plan to whatever I can to support Indigenous writers and creators to foster their art and share their stories.
